A Finished Film!

The film is complete!  Yes, you read that correctly.  The final touches were added in November and the  first screening happened in Duluth in early December.  We're working on getting all the Kick Starter rewards out, which includes the DVD's.  We're also setting up DVD ordering on our website (coming soon!).  In the mean time, contact us via our Facebook Page if you're interested in getting one.

Be sure to keep an eye out for additional screenings.  It's finally done, now we've got to share it!

So how's that film coming along?

July 15, 2013

There have been many momentum swings over the last couple of years with the film aspect of this project.  We know a lot of you are wondering what the status is, mainly because many of you ask us from time to time.  The update today is one that contains the strong pulse of progress, and we couldn't be more optimistic and proud to share that with you all.

With the strong guidance and drive of JJ, we welcome Katy Andres to the team.  As JJ put it, she "has taken the reins on post-production, and is charging forward with the ferocity of one-thousand warriors."  This ferocity, along with JJ's opening cut, has provided nearly 45 minutes of linked footage that, at least for myself, has reassured me that our filming effort - and the quality of that effort - was and is worth the time of a thousand warriors.

Stay tuned.  Momentum is high and the SD stoke continues to be alive.

Here at Superior Dream, we're feeling a bit of rejuvenation.  Again.

When at times this project feels lifeless, a pulse suddenly surfaces and our eyes light up and we feel like we can see it being completed.  Now, granted, we still have some work to do.  Our team has a slightly new roster but the goal and passion remains the same.

Within 2 weeks our NYC editor will have a full time focus on the film, working from our existing string out.  With the ever important help of our Executive Producer, JJ, we now anticipate June 1 as a date in time where we'll be able to proudly present you with a documentary of our trip.  And present it we will!

On the non-editing side of things, we'll try to be more in touch via the blog, our website and Facebook.  We know it's been almost 3 years.  Trust us, we know.  So we realize we might need to drum up a little more fresh excitement and energy.  We couldn't be more excited to see this challenging side of the entire project come to fruition.  And we hope you'll still join us in this excitement.  As always, thanks for your support over the past years.  Let's bring this thing home!

A much needed update:

We have shipped our footage to New York. Yup. that's right. Our paddles are once again in the water and hopefully the film will begin to move forward once again. We want to thank Katie Swanson for her wonderful time and efforts she put into Superior Dreams and the amazing job she's done getting the project to where it is. It's incredible to think she pulled it off at the same time as she was finishing her degree, and trying to get her life set up in L.A. Thanks for everything, Katie.

Our new editor is excited about what he's seen so far and we are excited to have him on board. Barring any other unforeseen rocks, or shoals the rumor is late Spring ladies and gents.

Thanks for sticking with us. We appreciate all your support and interest!!!

80-35 hrs

We've hit a major benchmark in post production! Trimmed the fat, so to speak, from 80 hours of raw film to 35 hours of workable clay. From there we mold, rearrange, and glue with spit the film down to a 2-3 hour chunk of goodness. The the real fun starts.

Right now Luke and I are putting together a timeline to help the editors out with organization when they merge our two separate pieces together. (Luke's camera and my own.)

Here's to steps forward!

Still Chuggin' forward

Hey all,

So some of you might have noticed we are having a bit of website difficulty. Luke is working on fixing that and I am still waiting on a couple of addresses to mail out your goodie bags. The water color paintings have been sent out, or hand delivered. Currently the rest of the prints are at the shop, well, getting printed.

We hope to get all this stuff out to you all soon!

I know Luke and I are a bit frustrated with how long this part of our project has taken. We thank you for your patience. Katie and Josh are working diligently on the film and we hope to have it soon.

Hope this finds you all well, and enjoy what's left of the summer!

Happy Birthday Eeyore.

When I woke up this morning, I woke up in Austin, TX on The Shady Rest Band's couch. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and remembered that today is Eeyore's birthday, searched for my keys, wallet, and cell phone among the empty PBR Silos and other shenanigans on the coffee table and tried to replay the night.

It wasn't a blackout. I had only had one avocado margarita, and two beers. Ok, three beers. Hardly enough to explain waking up randomly throughout the night to scenes like one of the band members, wrestling with someone else on the living room floor, crashing over furniture and spilling beer. (Poor defenseless beer.) Or drunk guy with mullet (not band member) rocking out on the acoustic guitar three feet from my head.

I was the guy on the couch. Road weary and dog tired. I think I vaguely remember having the thought: Just 20 minutes and I'll rally. An hour later, after opening one eye to see who had the upper hand in the wrestling match, I decided I wasn't going to be able to play catch-up to get to these guys' level and simply rolled over.

Why Austin, TX you might be wondering. I am about to go on a week long stand up paddleboarding and deep water soloing trip with our SD guitarist, Dave Costello, and another friend. So far, this being my first time to Texas, I have to say things are done right down here.

Just dropping a line to let everyone know that the dominoes are being set up so that when our student editors have time we'll bang out the documentary.

We have music being recorded, in partnership between, Dave Costello and Chris Beaty at Sonic Bloom. Those two are extremely talented people and we are looking forward to hearing what they come up with. Chris has been involved with the last two Dudes On Media films, Paddle to Seattle, and Go Ganges.

Slowly, but I assure you surely thing are moving forward.

To celebrate Eeyore's birthday--even if I was the only one in the house that was celebrating it-- Ben the banjo player and Jaz the guitar player invited me out to breakfast at a small mexican place. By way of a gas station for a road beer.

The restaurant being only a quarter mile away meant that we had to drive around the block a few times to finish the beer. When in Rome... The heavy metal music exploding from Jaz's car speakers, the morning beer, the cheap mexican food, all for you Eeyore. Happy birthday.
